The Process
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic method that can help you heal from past traumas, big or small, by reprocessing them in a way that allows you to feel safe, grounded, and at peace. It’s especially helpful for mothers navigating the challenges of the perinatal, postpartum, and early motherhood stages. The process is designed to help you release emotional and physical tension tied to past experiences, so you can feel more present, calm, and confident in your daily life. It’s really never too late in your motherhood journey to heal.
-
Before we dive into reprocessing, we’ll spend time building tools to help you feel grounded and calm. These skills help your nervous system stay balanced as we work through difficult memories.
-
Together, we’ll identify a memory or experience that’s been weighing on you—something that feels stuck or triggers strong emotions. You’ll share what comes up, and we’ll focus on the thoughts, feelings, and body sensations tied to it.
-
Then, I will help you with the use of bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping). This process helps your brain reprocess the memory, almost like refiling it in a way that makes it feel less overwhelming.
-
As we move through the memory, you may notice it feeling less intense. We’ll work together to shift any negative beliefs (like “I’m not good enough”) into positive ones (like “I am safe” or “I can handle this”). By the end of the session, you can feel more at peace.
-
After each session, you may feel a noticeable shift. The memory of what happened won’t have the same emotional charge, and you’ll feel more grounded, calm, and able to approach challenges with more confidence and self-compassion.
Throughout this process, I’m here to support you.
It’s a gentle, collaborative approach, and we’ll move at your pace. EMDR helps you heal from the inside out, so you can show up for yourself and your child with more peace and clarity.
